History

Due to the fact the La Pobla is very near from Tarragona, this land was occupied during the first centuries of our era. A proof of this is the existence of a treasure of bronze coins. There are about two hundred of coins that dated from the age of the Emperor Claudi I.

During the first years of the Christian Reconquest, La Pobla was called "La Guàrdia de Mafumet" (the guard of Mafumet). In its origins it was a part of the township of El Codony and it belonged to the Montoliu family.

In the Middle Age, the church of La Pobla was suffragan vicarage of the parish church of El Codony. Therefore, it had to contribute to the works of the church, the rectorship and the grave of El Codony.

The origin of the "Quadres" of Requesens, La Camareria and El Vilar del Baró dates from the 12th.century. La Camareria was a part of the ownerships of the Cambrer of La Seu de Tarragona.

The most important building is the parish church. It is dedicated to Sant Joan Baptista, and it has a notable belfry.

From 1801, when the old hermitage of Sant Joan if the township of El Vilar del Baró was destroyed, the image of La Mare de Déu de la Llet (the patroness of La Pobla) is in the church of the village. It is a carving that is 55 centimetres high. Her dress has not many folds, and the cloak does not cover the plait hair, in the two sides of the head. It has a crown on the head.
